Bleachers and Bishop Briggs 11/9/17 Newport Music Hall, Columbus, Ohio

Pandora announced via their Facebook page and other social media outlets that they were co-sponsoring a free PreGame Party November 9, 2017 at the Newport Music Hall featuring Bleachers and Bishop Briggs. One needed to RSVP then be in attendance before the event reached capacity. My son Sam Teller alerted me to the event and we both RSVP'd.
We then headed down to the Ohio State University campus for the event about 2 hours before the event on the day of the show. We ended up being back 20 folks from the front of the line. When the doors opened at 7 p.m., we entered, grabbed some slices of Mikey's Late Night Slice pizza and a beverage from the open bar. We found ourselves one person off the rail down front - a great spot!
VENUE: The Newport Music Hall is "America's Oldest Continuously Operated Rock Club in America". Isn't that amazing? All the epic clubs in NYC, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington D.C., Houston, Seattle, Detroit, Cleveland...none have been around as long. I have seen more live shows here than any other venue. And it is close to my home and centrally located on High Street in the University area. It is cool? Yes! Is it in awesome shape? No! Am I fond of it? Oh yeah!

MERCH: No merch. Interesting, huh? Probably because of the format.
OPENER: I have liked Bishop Briggs songs since I first heard "River". Good beat, good lyrics, nice vocals. I love the vibe. I had not seen Bishop Briggs in the past and was excited to see her and the band. Her set was great. Bishop actively danced and moved about the stage while her drummer and two keyboardists provided excellent backing. A great set!

HEADLINER: Bleachers, featuring Jack Antonoff, are one of my favorite bands to emerge in the last few years. Their two studio albums are filled with enjoyable poppy-synth alt-rock. I saw Jack's first band, Steel Train, live in Columbus at the Basement years ago. I was able to meet the entire band and they signed a CD and tour poster for me. I followed Jack's career through .fun and Bleachers. I have seen Bleachers four times previously.
The band was in prime form and sounded great. Jack and band put on a great show. Mr. Antonoff clearly loves sharing the songs with his audience. He is engaged, enthusiastic, and rocking it! The set featured all their great songs: "Shadow", "Wild Heart", "Hate That You Know Me", "I Miss Those Days", "Rollercoaster", "I Wanna Get Better", and "Don't Take The Money". In addition, they performed a cover of Tom Petty's "American Girl". Another great Bleachers show!

Overall a great show. We enjoyed ourselves quite a bit. Four out of five stars. The camera used for these photos is my much-loved Canon G16 PowerShot.
